- Understand what constitutes working at height and why it is high-risk
- Identify common hazards such as fragile surfaces, edges, and openings
- Recognise legal responsibilities for employers and employees
- Apply basic risk assessment principles before starting work
2. Risk Control & Safe Equipment Use
- Apply the hierarchy of control (avoid, prevent, minimise) to reduce risks
- Select appropriate access equipment for different tasks
- Use ladders, scaffolds, and MEWPs safely and correctly
- Identify unsafe conditions and take corrective action
3. Equipment Safety & Inspection
- Carry out pre-use checks on equipment and harnesses
- Identify damaged or defective equipment and remove it from use
- Ensure equipment complies with safety standards and requirements
- Understand correct harness fitting and usage
4. Emergency Response & Rescue Planning
- Understand the importance of having a rescue plan in place
